I read «Autoreview» — the most popular magazine about cars in Russia — since 1994. And I have never thought that my photos will appear on the pages of the favourite magazine. So, it’s here, on page 3 🙂 This photo was taken at Gorkyclassic event in Nizhniy Novgorod last year.
As we all know, everything in our life evolves along the spiral — everything gets twisted, rotated, transforms onto another level, however, all the events get repeated, people get back and it happens in the same places.
The given photostream is the direct evidence hereto. Everything started few days ago, when i found the old picture of GAZ-21 «Volga» and MI-6 helicopter on the web, and realised that i have something similar in my archive. It turned out to be just the first of tens of pictures, almost identical to the oldies.
I just would like to add that none of pictures were made intentionally to resemble the old ones found on the web. And the special thanks goes to racinghistory.lv for the huge historical photomaterial from the Bikernieki track. The other old pictures are from my own archive and web space.

A new unique book about GAZ-21 «Volga» has finally come to life — the book about legendary and almost symbolic car of soviet automobile industry , written by Ivan Paderin. The book contains multiple archive photos and facts, photos of beautifully restored cars and much more, on over 400 pages.
For me it’s a great honour to have my pictures selected from thousands of photos from Gorky Classic event for the first page (below). More photos from this event here.
Special thanks to Ivan Paderin and Nikolay Panuli for a signed copy of the book!

These races were very popular in Soviet Union from the middle of the sixties and till the 90ies. There were lots of cups that were held in USSR republics. It began as competitions of taxi drivers on weekends, on their GAZ-21 und GAZ-24. And later more professional cars began to be engineered.
In 2010 this championship was reborn in Latvia, where the first „Dzintara volga” („Amber Volga”) Cup took place more than 30 years ago. The most famous drivers today are Anton Dolgopolov – champion of the Year 2011, Andrejs Paupers and Valdis Belmers. So, here are some photos from the last event, that took place at Bikernieki track on 7.July 2012. The battle was breath-taking!
It was a long waited trip to Russia, land of soviet automobile engineering, to the Gorkiy city (nowadays — Nizhniy Novgorod).
Here in 1932 the plant GAZ was built, where the new soviet cars have been assembled.
In the end of May, during 4 days we managed to visit GAZ museum, N-ring track, where we participated «Gorky Classic» oldtimer motor show , the stage of Dzintara Volga Cup and were lucky to take part in test races on the street supercars. Photos here:
